ABOUT BEAUTY BOX

Hi, I’m Yu Ming, an online beauty entrepreneur based in Tokyo where I’ve been living for the past four years. In Aug 2008, I stumbled upon an opportunity to set up my own online biz selling Japanese beauty products and supplements, called Beauty Box.

Well, more like, I got retrenched during the whole awful economic crisis that happened not too long ago, and I thought to myself, “You’ve got to sell something — anything!” I actually used collagen powder supplements for two years at that point and I had friends and family complimenting my skin (you can read more about it here). So what better thing to sell when you know it actually works?

In the beginning, I only sold Japanese products to Singapore and Malaysia but I had a deluge of inquiries from the US and it was all thanks to a TV show. Since then, I’ve increased the range of products in my online store and I stick to selling natural products that don’t irritate the skin that are made in Japan.

What can you expect from this blog? I touch on Japanese beauty trends, product reviews, and health and wellness — can’t deny that beauty and health are absolutely tied together. This blog is also about my personal journey of discovering what inner and outer beauty mean to me so I do talk about self-esteem and body image issues, too. So join me on this path…all the way from my powder room in Tokyo.
