Vitamin C Juice

When I think I’m going to get a cold or sore throat, I always think to myself, “I totally need a huge dose of Vitamin C right now.” Then I turn in early and sleep it off – always works like a charm for me. Or if I have a break-out and want my skin to heal faster, I would also make sure I pump more Vitamin C into my system.

Vitamin C is also essential in the production of collagen, just to let you know, and all the more reason to drink up.

So I whip out my old blender, of course, and set about to make this juice…

Recipe:
2 peeled medium-sized kiwi
1 cucumber
1 apple
1/4 lime
1/4 lemon
2 cups water
1 spoonful Meiji Amino Collagen Apple & Ginger

Hope you enjoy this juice! I love how this one puts me back on track when my health and skin aren’t doing so well. By the way, kiwis have more Vitamin C than oranges so it’s worth consuming these lil’ babies even though they can be a bit tart. Start off with one kiwi if you don’t like your drink to be too sour and the sweetness from the apple will help cover the tartness.

Introducing The Green Drink

Hi everyone, I’m blogging from Changi Airport Terminal One in Singapore as I’m waiting for my flight to Brisbane. Getting an Internet connection this past week has been challenging to say the least but I haven’t forgotten about putting up a video this week.

One of my beauty secrets is to have a “green drink” or two a day. There are so many green juice recipes out there and you can certainly work your imagination, but if you are a newbie to this idea, perhaps you would find a basic recipe a safe way to begin your relationship with more fresh fruit and veggies in your diet.

I find that having one or two green juices a day flushes out toxins and puts a glow to my skin. Let me share a tried and tested Green Drink recipe that was made famous by none other than Dr Oz and Oprah.

Recipe (in a high-speed blender):
1 apple
1 cucumber
1 celery stalk
1/4 lime
1/4 lemon
1 inch ginger
1 big handful of curly green parsley
2 cups water
1 spoonful Meiji Amino Collagen Apple & Ginger

Strain the pulp away from the liquid with a nut milk bag, a baking sieve or strainer, or a clean sock. Drink this first thing in the morning on an empty stomach so your body can absorb as many of those juicy vitamins and minerals. Don’t be afraid of the color green!

Cell Renewal Mojito Juice

Hi my lovelies, how was your Monday? I hope you made it through with finesse and calm. I had a whirlwind of a weekend in Sado Island, a beautiful, lush island off the coast of Niigata (northeast of Tokyo). It was a friend’s hen party so a big group of us girls went up on a bullet train to celebrate it with her.

As with all indulgent weekends, I felt the need to give my skin some extra love so I whipped out my greens and fruit from my fridge and made one of my all-time faves: a cell renewal juice.

I always juice one or two cucumbers when my skin is dull from too little sleep and too much fun. Some people may feel icky about drinking cucumber juice but this recipe will knock your socks off.

Recipe (in a high-speed blender):
1 cucumber
1 apple
½ lime
1 big handful of mint leaves
2 cups of water
1 spoonful of Meiji Amino Collagen Apple & Ginger

Strain the juice away from the pulp with a nut milk bag, or cheesecloth, or baking sieve. Pour into a glass of ice and serve.

This juice makes me feel like I’m drinking a mojito without the bad stuff (alcohol….). It’s also perfect for a quiet girls’ night in. Kampai (cheers in Japanese)!

Liver Cleanse Juice Video

A big hello after the weekend. I don’t know about you but summer is pretty full-on socially for me and I’ve definitely indulged too much. When my skin is breaking out or I’m feeling heavy and bloated, I would reach for a juice that will detox my liver.

The liver works the hardest when you consume a lot of junk food, fatty meat, and alcohol. So, my philosophy is what goes in must come out — especially for toxins! I’ve got a classic liver cleanse juice recipe for you today and your overworked system will thank you for it. Beets contain betaine which flushes out your liver naturally plus it’s bright red and absolutely delicious.

Recipe (in a high-speed blender):
1 medium beet, skinned & chopped
1 carrot, chopped
1 orange, peeled
1/4 lemon
2-3 cups water
1 spoonful Meiji Amino Collagen Apple & Ginger

Strain the pulp away from the juice with a nut milk bag or sieve or cheesecloth.

In this video, I also talk about why I prefer this straining method to a mechanized juicer.

Cheers – you will feel better after pouring so many vitamins and minerals into your body.

Skin Repair Antioxidant Juice

Hello my lovelies, thanks for checking out my Skin Repair Hydration Juice (Pineapple & Celery) video, and today, I’ve got a yummylicious antioxidant beauty elixir that is so easy to make — I promise you it really is.

Dark or bright colored fruit like berries are chock full of antioxidants that help to fight free radicals that cause skin to age prematurely and look sallow. Do your skin a favor and feed it with these skin-brightening nutrients.

Recipe (in a high-speed blender):
1 cup blackberries
1/2 chopped apple
1/2 lemon
2 cups water
1 spoonful Meiji Amino Collagen

Strain the juice from the pulp by using a nut-milk bag but a cheese cloth or baking sieve will work just as well. Enjoy!

New Skin Repair Juice Video: Celery & Pineapple For Hydration

I’m back to filming videos since I’ve got more beauty elixirs up my sleeve. My original video on Skin Repair Juice was pretty popular so I thought I would expand on this topic and launch a Skin Repair Juice Series. So there’s more to come soon!

When it comes to feeding your skin, all you need to do is to look around your local supermarket and you’ll find oodles of fruit and veggies that can help you improve your skin.

Today’s video touches on a classic skin repair juice (a common juice request in Singapore where I come from) — pineapple and celery.

Celery is chock full of minerals and it’s extremely hydrating. One of the reasons why our skin suffers from sallowness is because our cells are parched and this is truly one of the best ways to replenish them.

Recipe:

1/3 small ripe pineapple, chopped
2 stalks celery, chopped
2 cups water
1 spoonful Meiji Amino Collagen

What does a solid cleansing oil do?

I have a new episode on Beauty Box TV today and it’s about one of our new products, Raffine Solid Cleansing Oil.

I think we all love Japanese cleansing oils that remove makeup in a jiffy, so this oil that comes in solid form really intrigued me. When I read about it, I couldn’t fathom how it could wash off cosmetics, but it’s really easy peasy. I would only share great products with you!

Tune into this demo video to see how it works and what it looks like.

By the way, our Spring Sale (10% discount off all Raffine products) has been extended to the end of May.

Meiji Collagen Fruit Flavors: Do they taste good?

Hi everyone, there’s no blending or chopping in my kitchen for this video. Today’s just a short chat about what Meiji Amino Collagen Apple & Ginger and Grapefruit flavors taste and look like. I’m honestly not a fan of anything too sweet or sour, so I was quite impressed by how these two versions held their own.

Bonus tip: a sneak peak at what you can do with the apple flavor if you haven’t got it already.

How to make beauty soup

We’re knee-deep in winter so I thought a hot, savory recipe was in order. Many of my collagen drink recipes revolve around sweet fruit-based concoctions, but Meiji Amino Collagen can actually be consumed in your meal. You can add this collagen supplement powder to pretty much any liquid you desire and at any temperature because its effectiveness will not be affected.

Since this is a Japanese product, I thought a simple healthy Japanese recipe, miso soup, would be suitable as an introduction. Miso is a paste made from fermented soy beans and is a staple in every Japanese household. I think it’s one of the secrets to good health and longevity in Japanese culture. Forget instant pre-mixes that have MSG — it’s so easy to make your own.

Recipe (serves two):
1 small piece of dried kelp (size of half a small envelope)
1 tsp of white miso
2 tsp of shoyu (also called soy sauce)
1 drop of mirin (Japanese rice wine; optional)
1 drop of sesame oil (optional)
2 small rice bowls of water
2 shiitake mushrooms
1/2 packet of golden mushrooms
1 tbs wakame
1 spoonful of Meiji Amiino Collagen

Place the kelp in boiling water and wait for five minutes. Then, put all the ingredients in except for the collagen powder. When the mushrooms look soft, turn the fire down and stir in the amino collagen. Ladle the broth into bowls and serve.
