Sixty days into the raw

I promised an update of my raw journey which I started in mid-Jan, so here it is. I’ve been mostly raw for sixty days now and I’ve to say, I’m sold. I’ve never felt so good nor looked better in a very long time.

During my first forays into the raw food diet, I just told myself, “I’ll just eat one raw meal a day.” But that proved too easy so I went up to two and then all my snacks were raw. I’m still half-raw at dinner where I will have a cooked portion of grilled fish or a vegetable soup or curry. I was a very heavy meat-eater before so I still struggle with forgoing meat altogether. I’m not sure if I want to, but it’s something to put on the back burner for now.

Okay, I’ll give you a breakdown of my experience…

A raw update

Three weeks ago, I plunged into a raw food diet as a personal experiment. A gal on a mission to find inner and outer beauty, I did some research and the raw food diet just seemed very logical to me for both your body and skin.

I wrote a little bit here about the diet as a preface to my green smoothie post. Living food is packed full of nutrients to keep hunger pangs away, detox your body, and it can help you lose weight. I had to try it and there is nothing gimmicky about it because it’s about eating fresh food.

Now, my first week was your typical honeymoon: I unearthed recipes, read blogs, watched cooking demos, listened to raw vegan radio, and I relished the fresh taste of pure fruit and vegetables. I was in love and I had a special verve coursing through my veins.

Here are some of the recipes I tried and they will definitely be a repeat on my dining table.

Go green for gorgeous skin

You know, I love my products, but there is an unwavering truth about beauty starting from within.

I had a fun week of going out and entertaining friends over the Chinese New Year period but my body reached a point where it protested, “Enough is enough.” My skin was breaking out and I felt extremely heavy in a water-retentive way.

So I’ve been obsessed with the Raw Food Diet. I began reading about it late last year but only with an intellectual interest — I viewed it as an extreme way of living, but I gradually changed my mind the deeper I got into it, particularly after my recent binge on rich food and alcohol.

I also wrote a freelance article about the importance of enzymes in raw fruit and vegetables, and cooking them for more than two minutes kills off about 70 to 80 per cent of their nutrients. So your food is almost dead.
