Finally Caved Into Buying Laura Mercier’s Secret Camouflage

Today’s post is not a review but a lament of sorts. Sorry I didn’t post yesterday but life has been a little overwhelming of late, and with added stress, my skin is not horrible but definitely needs a bit of help.

Thank you so much for your support over at my Naruko/MDB blog sale. I think I’ve gotten rid a bit more than half of what went on sale so do check out what is still left. If you didn’t read my previous post on the blog sale, I want to get rid of these products which I’m allergic to. I know that is a terrible selling point but I think my skin is just going through an ultra-sensitive phase. Since Naruko products don’t have parabens, they can’t last forever (they are good for two years, unopened and sealed), hence the decision to pass them on.

Speaking of which, my rashes have subsided but something is definitely going on with my hormones or diet, because I’ve been getting more acne than usual. Perhaps winter has steered my taste buds to comforting carb-based meals and I know my skin doesn’t do well when I have more gluten and dairy (damn you, pizza!). So while I was strolling past Shibuya’s Tokyu Plaza Laura Mercier counter, I thought, “I’ve had enough of these zits and half-assed concealers!!!”

The SA sat me down and told me SC-5 was my shade (I was eyeing the SC-4) after which she promptly worked to disguise two large pimples on the left side of my face. Mind you I already had some concealer on but she gently wiped that layer away and put some Secret Camouflage magic on those annoying red bumps.

She swiped some of the darker shade, then the lighter shade on the back of her hand, and used a brush to dab the stuff on my face. After which, she set the concealer with some translucent powder — she explained that this loose powder was better than the compact because it contains no oil) — and I was like, “Holy crap, this is so awesome!” It didn’t erase my zits but the concealer reduced the appearance of the angry red pimples by 80%, I swear. Dropping 11,000JPY (USD140) on the brush, concealer, and setting powder was no small amount but it was worth every yen.

I am ditching all my other concealers!

So this is not a review as I have not used this for long at all so I may find other hidden factors as I go along.

Now I know why some women are craaaaazy about concealers — they can make you feel at least 80% better about your appearance! I think I actually walked away from the counter a changed woman and my day felt heaps shinier and more positive.

What is your favourite concealer?
