Dupes In My Collection: NARS Orgasm vs Addiction Emotional

Hi my dearies, thanks for your comments on my first dupe post and I’ve got another one for you today. For those of you new to this mini-series, I’m digging out all the dupes in my collection.

I know the best dupes are the ones that look and behave the same but I found this to be rarely the case, even with very well-known dupes. There is always something a little bit different. Having said that, what is your definition of a good dupe?

Here, I have Addiction Emotional Blush on the left and NARS Orgasm on the right. The swatches at the bottom also correspond to the product shots above. They look obviously different in the pan, with Emotional pulling way more orange than Orgasm but they both have the same overlying golden sheen.

For those of you who are not fans of Addiction, here’s another nugget of information — Addiction was set up by makeup artist Ayako, who used to work at NARS. So you can see that the sensibilities of both brands are quite strikingly similar. Interestingly, both NARS and Addiction haven’t released BB creams in a market highly saturated with the stuff.

Looking at the swatches on my arm, Emotional is like a darker rosier version of Orgasm’s coral pink tone. These are very heavy swatches so they could show up on camera, but in reality, nobody wears so much blush on their face.

I’ve done a quick FOTD with Emotional on one cheek and Orgasm on the other cheek. Can you tell that there is a difference on my cheeks?

On the left cheek is Orgasm and on the right cheek is Emotional. They are so similar on my cheeks that I can’t really tell the difference when it’s on my face — these two blushes definitely belong to the same family.

For a closer look, I’ve taken individual photos of my cheeks to highlight how these two blushes look. Addiction is only slightly cheaper than NARS in Japan so I wouldn’t say you’ve scored yourself a good deal by choosing Emotional over Orgasm.

And why did I purchase Orgasm when I already had Emotional? I’m a bit embarrassed to admit this but I just like peachy warm blushes and I also went through a phase when I was obsessed with buying the “classics”, i.e. products that have been tried-and-tested and raved by millions of beauty junkies. Also, I like the golden highlights in both products and I don’t need to put on a separate highlighter to look more glowy, so these are my go-to blushes if I’m in a screaming hurry.

I’ve to add that Orgasm has longer staying power and Emotional tends to fade after 6-8 hours and I always have to touch up, while I never experience that with Orgasm. In conclusion, I’ve to say I still prefer Orgasm over Emotional but Addiction still has way better packaging than NARS which attracts thumbprints and scratches like bees to honey.

I know there are so many dupes for Orgasm so pray tell if you know any! Do you know of any good dupes for blushes, not just Orgasm?

  1. Thanks for the great post! I’ve always wondered about Addiction blushes so it’s good to have your opinion on how long wearing it is. Both are very pretty colors. I have Orgasm and love the color.

  2. Wow, the colors look great on you! I’ve never experiment any color other than from MAC Fleur Power! I’m afraid to try out because of my skin tone (fair during winter, olive tone in summer). Now, you really made me want to explore :)

  3. They look like great dupes! I only own one NARS blush (mata hari) and love the soft texture!

  4. Hi Kat, I love Addiction as a brand but the length of wear of this particular blsuh, Emotional, is a little on the disappointing side.

  5. @Nelly: I think NARS Orgasm would suit you since you have olive skin tone in summer. The golden sheen would look very pretty on your skin. ;-)

  6. @winnie: Ooo I’ve got to try more iconic NARS blushes – Mata Hari being one of them, Exhibit A, Deep Throat and Dolce Vita.

  7. That’s a great point about how they look different but the same on cheeks. I tend to ignore that most times, being a blush fiend and all. ;(

theBalm Hot Mama blush is supposed to be an Orgasm dupe. I will have to conduct a test one day just like this!

  8. @Liz: I’m really into blush too and have way too many for just two cheeks haha…they can end up looking v similar despite being miles apart in the pan. Looking forward to your dupe post!!
