Dupes In My Collection: Chanel vs Visee
Hi my dearies, I’m so excited to announce a new mini series that I will be kicking off on the blog. I’ve always been curious about dupes, be it just a lookalike or a high-vs-low-end one. Since my makeup collection has grown steadily over the years, I thought I would snoop around and see if I could find any dupes.
…And I was ecstatic to have found several dupes in my humble makeup cupboard. As I was compiling the photos and information, I realized that it would be a huge-ass, sprawling post so I decided to break it up and talk about each product in more detail — much like my Japanese Drugstore Hunt 2000JPY & Below series.
My first dupe is the dark chocolate brown from the Chanel Les 4 Ombres 74 Nymphea quad (left) and the bottom most dark brown shade in Visee’s Royal Party Glam Nude Eyes N-7 palette (right). The Chanel shade is slightly more shimmery and richer than the Visee one which comes across as a matte-satiny texture. They are both very pigmented and great for smoking out the edges of the eye.
I guess this is not a must-grab gotta-have-it type of dupe but I thought I would just slowly ease into showing off my dupe collection. It’s simply more of an exploration on how many dupes can I find in my own stash. I think the glee also comes from knowing that Visee does have high quality shadows at the fraction of the price but I would definitely not say Visee equals Chanel at any stretch of the imagination. And Chanel packaging is second to none, in my honest opinion
Also, this is more of a reference for my fellow expats who do not want to pay cut throat prices for Western cosmetics and want to find comparable alternatives at the Japanese drugstore.
Other additional notes: I’ve held onto the Visee palette for ages because it is still by far one of the few palettes which I’m happy with every single shade to create an everyday neutral eye look. The Chanel Nymphea quad is not as flexible because of the green shade which I often neglect and just go for a pink/brown look when I use this.
This Visee palette was a limited edition one but I’m confident to say that Visee doesn’t stray much from each collection they release and you’ll be able to find many palettes that are similar to each other in all their releases. Visee eyeshadows also tend to have a more buttery texture (as with Lavshuca) than most other drugstore brands.
Do you know of any excellent dupes that you have found at the Japanese drugstore?

i look forward to the dupes!
I have never tried visee before but i am a bit more familiar with chanels eye shadow formulas. Its pricy for sure but i feel that it is very reliable in terms of formula and it makes a nice treat for ones self. After all haven’t we fallen for luxury goods simply because it is a luxury to have. Especially when we know there are much more affordable dupes but still crave for that luxury piece.
@kimby: I totally agree with you! Chanel is very reliable in terms of quality for most of their makeup. Their skincare, I’ve not tried so can’t really comment, but there is just something magical about Chanel
oh i love reading about dupes!
sometimes i’m just too lazy to search for dupes in my stash so i just grab the product while it’s still on sale. XD with 2013, i hope some self-discipline is in need!
@Jenni: It was quite a time-consuming task and I literally opened up ALL my makeup drawers and spent a good few hours perusing and analyzing colours. It was actually very relaxing and therapeutic but then I am a makeup junkie who could spend hours looking at cosmetics :p
