Favourite Multitasking Beauty Products
Hello my lovelies! How’s your summer treating you so far? Mine has been about nesting, as you know from my last post, and getting to know other pregnant gaijin mamas-to-be in Tokyo. I think it’s so important to find a support group of sorts when you are going through an important life change, especially when we don’t have family near us.
I’ll be going away to Atami this weekend as I’ve a friend who lives there so we’ll be digging our heels into the local culture there, some swimming will be involved, and definitely fireworks in the evening. I’ve not been to a single hanabi festival this summer so I’m really looking forward to it. Atami is only 40 minutes south of Tokyo by shinkansen so it’s not like I’ll be hauling my huge pregnant self across the country or anything like that. It’ll be nice to get away from Tokyo for a couple of days and be near the water.
Let’s talk beauty now, shall we? I had a brainwave recently and thought that some of my all-time fave products have multi-tasking qualities. Don’t you just love the 2-in-1 concept (as long as it’s not a shampoo conditioner – haha!)? Here goes…
♥ Caudalie Divine Oil seems like an obvious choice but it truly is a work horse for skin and hair. I love it especially as a leave-in treatment before you wash your hair. I spritz this all over my hair before I take a 20 minute walk to the swimming pool near my house, and then after the swim, I wash my hair as per normal.
The effect is always so amazing on my hair – it becomes so soft and I feel happy that the chlorine hasn’t had a chance to ruin my tresses. It smells absolutely gorgeous — a mix of floral and musk – and it has excellent sillage. This is great as a skin moisturizer for arms and legs as well (too highly perfumed for face, though, methinks) and I also use it as a post-shampoo hair gloss (if I didn’t use it before washing my hair).
♥ Bobbi Brown Rose Gold Shimmer Brick is one of my most reached for makeup items. I tend to swap out cosmetics on a weekly basis to use more of my stash but this always remains within reach because I just love it! I use the palette for an all-over rose/pink lid eyeshadow, or to highlight the inner corners of my eyes, or to highlight my cheek bones, nose, and forehead to brighten up an overall look when I use a matte face powder (I only go matte in this high humidity!).
♥ Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1 sits by my futon and I apply it to my lips every night – it keeps chapped lips at bay, even in summer when I sleep in drying air-conditioning. Since it’s a liquidy type of lip balm squeezed out of a tube, I always tend to squeeze out more than I should, so what do I do with the remainder? I always apply the rest to my cuticles – and it works! I used to have pretty ragged cuticles, especially in the drier weather, so now it’s a habit of mine to apply lip balm to my nail beds. I do this with other liquid lip balms like Ettusais Lip Essence and Lanolips Lemonaid Lip Aid.
♥ Jurlique Hand Cream is my HG hand cream – it’s creamy, not sticky, and does the job. If my hands are especially dry, I rub a generous blob all over my hands and they feel soft and moisturized the next day. It’s also great as a foot cream – I have calluses on my toes and flaky hard skin on my heels which look so ugly in flip flops, so I spread a good amount on those areas and it keeps my feet looking decent. All four scents are lovely too – Rose, Citrus, Jasmine, and Lavender. I have them all in my stash – I’m such a hoarder, but hey, I use this every single day…
♥ Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Masque is great for oily-skin peeps who need to quench dehydrated skin without the grease. I love using this on long haul flights and I use it more as a serum – I use it before putting on moisturizer. I don’t actually wash it off because it sinks into the skin like a dream. It really boosts hydration power on the plane. But when I’m not on a plane, this is great as a quickie hydrating mask in summer. I do wash it off after 10-15 minutes but I reckon it is great as a gel moisturizer when the weather is too humid to wear even a moisturizing lotion. It doesn’t break me out when I don’t wash it off.
