Feb Empties

Hi ladies, It feels like I just did my Jan Empties post but get ready for February’s…..drum roll…..it is THE biggest empties post ever on Beauty Box!

On my five-week holiday, I managed to knock over quite a few samples hence why I managed to blitz through a whopping 32 products. I’ve got a few discards as well so let’s get to it.

St Ives Green Tea Scrub has been a long-time staple in my routine to prevent clogged pores on my face and body.

T/Gel Therapeutic Shampoo & Conditioner are a once-a-week must-have to keep scalp build up, dandruff, and oiliness at bay.

L’Occitane Firming & Smoothing Almond Milk Concentrate was a pricey body moisturizer but so worth it. Everytime I had a hard day in those early new born days, I would slather this on as my night-time treat. The fragrant almond scent soothed my frazzled nerves and put me in the mood for a restful sleep.

Korres Body Butter Apple Blossom (deluxe sample) was a cop out in my opinion because it smells exactly like the Fig version.

Sukin Organics Nourishing Conditioner is a favourite whenever I visit Sydney or Singapore. This natural conditioner is free from silicones and sulphates and is so moisturizing.

Lush Prince Charming Shower Gel was a Valentine’s day limited edition product and it smelled of grapefruit peel which was so refreshing in hot and humid conditions.

Invisible Zinc Face & Body Sunscreen SPF50 was excellent as a physical sunscreen for body. It’s a bit thick and I didn’t quite like it on my face — anyway I much prefer using Dior or Clarins as facial sunscreens.

Jo Malone Wild Bluebell Colgone was meh but was serviceable on my holiday.

Sofymo White Cleansing Oil (deluxe sample) was excellent at removing makeup and it comes in a 60ml bottle so it was great for travelling. I picked it up after reading rave reviews at My Women Stuff.

Ren Hydra Calm Global Protection Day Cream was a serious disappointment because it still irritated my skin though it claims it’s suitable for sensitive skin. It has a fairly strong fragrance to it and suspect could be the cause for the burning sensation on my skin. I used it up on my neck and chest.

Penhaligon’s Gardenia was absolutely lovely and was sorry to see it go when this fresh soft floral perfume came to an end. I would definitely buy the full-sized version when I get the chance.

Heroine Make Mascara Remover is the bomb.

Korres Body Butter Basil Lemon (deluxe sample) was so-so and the lemon scent veered on being detergent-like so not a repurchase for me.

Ren No.1 Purity Cleansing Balm stung my eyes so badly. I was quite appalled by the Ren products I’ve tried so far, except the Glycol Lactic Radiance Renewal Mask.

TIGI Rockaholic Livin’ The Dream Sulphate-Free Shampoo had a citrusy zing to it which I enjoyed but my scalp always got slightly itchy the next day so I don’t know if it’s this product per se or something else in my hair care routine.

Ole Henrikson African Red Tea Foaming Cleanser smelled amazing which seemed like a bunch of oranges squeezed onto my skin. But this cleanser proved a bit too strong for my face and caused it to itch slightly after a week so I used the rest up on my body.

Tom Ford Black Orchid was like, “OMG I NEEEEEED THIS!”

Ettusais Acne Skin Version Up is a staple and a bottle lasted me exactly five weeks.

Ole Henrikson Truth Serum Collagen Booster was seriously a life saver during my tropical holiday. I slept in air conditioning but the humidity outside my bedroom was still pretty high so the thin but hydrating texture was just perfect. It has a strong citrus smell much like the African Red Tea Foaming Cleanser but it didn’t irriate my skin funnily enough.

L’Occitane Ultra Rich Body Cream Date Bouquet had a very green-floral scent which was lovely in hot weather. The light lotion texture of this cream was great for humid weather. The only complaint I have is that this tin only lasted for barely 10 days. It’s quite an expensive product but it won’t even get you through half a month.

Sofymo Speedy Cleansing Oil is a lighter version of the White Cleansing Oil version but worked exactly the same.

Lush Happy Hippy Shower Gel had a sweet citrusy fragrance that is not like detergent at all so this is a rare lemony-orange scented shower product which I will definitely repurchase.

Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser is seriously the best. Period.

Lush Rub Rub Rub or “Salty Rock” was a body scrub I hated — smelled exactly like Jif. Yuck.

Korres Body Butter Guava is my favourite one in their range.

Bioderma Ultra-Nourishing Emollient Balm was a brilliant cream that felt lightweight but moisturized my parched skin on planes.

Jo Malone Blackberry & Bay Cologne (sample) was quite lovely paired with English Freesia & Pear which is quite sweet. The slightly masculine tones balanced out the latter’s sweetness — not something I would purchase though.

La Visui Mineral Moist Conditioner is a staple in my hair care routine. I always come back to this and I love both this version and the Mineral SPA version.

Jurlique Hand Cream Rose & Lavender were lovely as always. The best non-greasy hand cream ever.

Bath & Bodyworks Sea Island Cotton, Sweet Pea, & Moonlight Path smelled a bit off to me and there were little droplets of condensation at the top of their bottles which grossed me out.

Whoo! That was a seriously long list of empties. The little bubba slept for as long as I took to write this post — an hour and a half! Anyway, thank you for reading if you’ve got this far. Again, I do this for my own bizarre obsession with finishing beauty products and documenting them, and for my fellow empties-warriors out there.

  1. Wow that’s a lot of empties, Yuming! I love Jurlique’s hand creams too. So lovely and nice.

And OMG, LOVING your new look blog. Looks fantastic, the illustrations are just so cute and appropriate for this lovely space.

  2. @trishie: aw thanks dearie! I love the cute and casual look too. Onto another blogging chapter in my life 😉

  3. Hey girl – LOVE the new design! The banner is so cheerful. 😀

Sad that the REN products didn’t work out for you. They were lifesavers for me but I started to detest the cloying fruit scents all their products are permeated with. And weirdly, the Ole Truth Serum never does much for me despite raves across the board. I have a small sample bottle that should be given away.. tried it twice and I think something in it just doesn’t agree with me. I don’t think we are skin twins, lol.

  4. @Liz: Aw thanks. I saw that photo on iStock and had to download it – I knew it was just the right thing for my blog right now. LOL at not being “skin twins”!! I satisfied my curiosity with Ren, so onto the next thing now as always 😉
