I Heart Japanese Drugstore Products Tag Video
Happy Valentine’s Day, my loves! For the first time in years, I was in the same place as my husband for this day so I’m happy we are together. He usually travels for work in Feb but our schedules were able to have us both in Singapore (again – yay!) at the same time.
I’ve been dying to film this tag video, and since I live in Tokyo, I’d only mentioned brands that I see at the Japanese drugstore. It was quite challenging to do this because I love both Western and Japanese drugstore products. They both have their cult faves but I think giving a twist to this ever-so-popular tag video would give Asian beauty product fans something different to watch.
QUESTIONS:
1. What is your favorite drugstore makeup brand?
2. What are your favorite face, cheek and lip products?
3. Least favorite product?
4. What is the best makeup bargain?
5. What is your favorite underdog product? (Something you love that often gets overlooked?)
6. A drugstore product that is overpriced?
7. Show your best drugstore dupe(s)!!
8. Drugstore product that isn’t worth the hype?
Tell me what your favourite Japanese drugstore products are!

There are some quality drugstore brands out there. For certain things I like canmake. I used to wear Kanebo’s cheap cream foundation.. it wasn’t too bad but my skin is terrible and now I just stick to MAC.
Other than foundation I’m a sucker for cute packaging with no real loyalty to any company =o
@mishi: I can totally relate to being a sucker for cute packaging! I love Paul & Joe, Too Faced, Benefit for those reasons haha…
Thanks for the recommendations! A friend who runs a U.S. beauty blog (www.sophieoftroy.com) just sent me some makeup and I got to thinking, hmm, what should I send her back… Your video is full of great recommendations, provided I don’t end up keeping the products for myself. XD
@Jordan: Glad you found my video useful in shopping for your friend. I wish I could have squeezed in more products to recommend, e.g. Majolica Majorca mascara and Heroine Make mascara remover (the best remover for stubborn smudge proof Japanese mascara). And Canmake nail polish has some pretty nude and pink shades that can rival other elegant shades….and Shiseido cotton pads are the softest!!
I do not have my favorite Japanese drugstore brand, because I have not tried so many Japanese drugstore brands. I like Hada Labo and Komenuka Bijin, but I think the latter is not a drugstore brand. It is pretty expensive, but the quality is fabulous, so I guess you pay for what you get. I also love Shiseido and Koh Gen Do, but these two are definitely not drugstore brands.
) Happy Valentine, and I hope you are enjoying your time with your husband in beautiful Singapore.
@Sandra: I suppose what is available at retail stores are more high end Japanese products. If you don’t have many Japanese drugstore favourites, how about other drugstore brands?
I don’t own a lot of makeup so I can’t really compare them. I’m currently using Kate real create eyes eyeshadow pallet in shade BR-3. For foundation I use Bare Minerals loose powder foundation in the lightest shade. I’m not sure if it qualifies as drug store or not since I got it at Sony Plaza. I’ve used Aube eyeshadows in the past and liked their quality. They were a bit pricey though at around ¥3,000. I used to use Shiseido’s Integrate line’s lipstick and found it to be okay but nothing special. For skincare I like Dr Ci Labo Aqua Collagen Gel Super Sensitive. It’s expensive though at about ¥8,000 for 120 grams. I see this brand in the makeup department of department stores here but they also have it at my local drug store, I get it on Amazon though since it’s about ¥2,000 cheaper. I also like their sunscreen. I like the lotion/toner from hada labo’s ES line. I use it for lotion masks and with my Hitachi Hada Crie for moisturizing. For makeup remover I like Kose’s Speedy Cleansing Oil.
I also like DHC’s cleansing oil but think it is a bit overpriced for what it is, their lip balm is nice though.
@Melanie: You’ve listed quite a few standout products there! I like DHC Cleansing Oil as well. Dr Ci Labo Aqua Collagen products are pretty good too and I used to use them one hot summer several years ago. I have never tried Aube before but my sisters likes the brand – it’s on the high end scale of Japanese drugstore brands.
