Shopping My Stash: Stila Sahara Sand Eye Shadow Palette FOTD + Baby Shower Update
Hello my loves, it’s actually my birthday today and I cleared my calendar to chill out at home in this scorching Tokyo summer. I figured I would allow my heavily pregnant self to relax in air-conditioned comfort doing all my favourite things — reading, blogging, watching TV, nomming on noodles, and sipping on ice-cold coconut water. Later in the evening, the husband and I are going for dim sum and a movie date for a quiet celebration.
It’s been a while since I did an FOTD on the blog and fished out an oldie but goodie from my stash…
The Stila Sahara Sand Eye Shadow Palette was picked up on impulse at a Nordstrom Rack in Philadelphia last fall. Yes, that sounds so random. I was shopping there with my sister-in-law and spotted so many amazing deals. It was close to Christmas so I nabbed this baby thinking I could gift it to someone but no one I know fits the profile of a Stila eyeshadow wearer. The edgy look of the palette is also something of an acquired taste so I kept it for myself in the end.
The warm pink and bronze shades are right up my alley, while the deeper purple brown crease shade (in the corners) was something I already had in a few palettes already but one can never have enough dark brown eyeshadow in your collection – they are often great in deepening an eyeshadow look.
Be warned that there is some fall out so I usually tap my brush on the side of the palette before application. I like the fact that it only has three shades because that’s all you need to get a lovely neutral everyday look…
Basically, I put the pink shade all over the lid, dabbed some of the bronze colour from the middle of the lid and shaded it outwards, then I took a blending brush and smoked out with the dark purple brown eyeshadow.
For the rest of my face, I used the new Shu Uemura purple all-in-one pressed powder (which deserves a whole post of its own – I mean PURPLE – what?!), Chanel Jous Contraste Powder Blush 99 Rose Petale, NYC Smooth Skin Bronzing Face Powder in Sunny, and Stila Lip Glaze in Kitten (a gorgeous warm brown shimmery lip gloss that I’m halfway through…).
Are there any eyeshadow palettes rocking your boat this summer?
On a personal note, I am still basking in the after-glow of my baby shower-cum-birthday party last weekend. My dear girlfriends threw a pink-tastic themed do with a diaper cake, strawberry-cream cupcakes that said, “Congrats Mom” with flowers, deers and teddy bears in icing shapes, tons of pink cutlery, balloons, and other decorations.
I never felt so pampered and it was a pot luck party too so there was zero stress! The husband also fired up our new bbq grill so there was tons to eat on top of what was brought to the party. What amazed me too, was that my Japanese male friends all came in pink! I think Japanese men are not shy with colours and they wear them proud and loud – just awesome.
I’m 33 weeks (or 8 months in the Western calendar, or 9 months in the Japanese calendar) in that photo above, which is a month till I reach full-term (37 weeks) and after that, the baby could come anytime, although my due date is in the first week of October. I definitely feel very heavy and a little unbalanced but am trying to take it slow and easy.
I’ve had to cut back on appointments when I feel under the weather — I’ve started getting Braxton Hicks contractions which make me feel nauseous sometimes and I just want to lie down when they come. They feel like period cramps, basically, and your uterus is just “practicing” labour pains which stretches and hones all the equipment down there, I suppose.
But am in full nesting mode – I am cleaning, clearing, and stocking up on things around the house so that the household can be run smoothly while the baby arrives. They say it’s a hormonal-related reaction but I think it’s very much a psychological response to approaching an impending life chapter change.
Are there any readers out there who got into full-on nesting mode while pregnant too? Would love to hear your stories!
